Blizzard has revealed some details about the automated tournaments system that's coming to StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void beta. Originally announced last year, this system will provide automatically run daily tournaments and matchmaking to connect players with similar skill levels.
The tournaments come in two flavors: three-round tournaments lasting from sixty to ninety minutes will run from Monday to Thursday, while six-round tournaments lasting three to four hours will play out from Friday to Sunday. The shorter tournaments will feature only single-elimination bracket, while the longer, weekend tournaments will also have a group stage.
As
Blizzard says, this is all "
a very early implementation of Automated Tournaments. There are still features to be added, bugs to be fixed, and feedback to be received," so the final result is subject to change.
Players will only be able to join one tournament at a time, and any unplayed matches will be automatically forfeit. Matches are currently limited to a 25 minute duration. If the match is not finished once the time runs out, the player with the most experience points (earned by getting resources, building, destroying enemy units) wins.
